FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the difference between electric and gas powered cars?
Electric is quieter, smoother running, and much more readily available in Florida.  Gas is preferable in situations where recharging is inconvenient, all-day heavy-duty power is needed, or the car will be driven more than 20 miles a day.  Both cars require about the same amount of maintenance.  Gas cars cost about 5% more than electric.

What maintenance do golf cars require?
Electric cars require checking the water level in the batteries every 1-2 weeks depending on amount of use.  Gas cars require checking the oil every 2-4 weeks depending on usage.  Check the tire pressure as you would with any vehicle.  Recommended pressure is on the side of the tire.  Other maintenance should be performed by an experienced technician.

How far can I go on a battery charge?
Batteries are rated by time.  You get 105-117 minutes of drive time on a set of good batteries.  As a point of reference, a round of golf on a normal 18-hole course uses about 30 minutes of drive time.

How long does it take to recharge batteries?
It can take anywhere from 4-10 hours depending on various factors.  It is recommended to recharge the batteries after each day’s use, rather than running them down low.  Most battery chargers are designed to shut off automatically when the batteries are fully charged.

How long do batteries last?
3-6 years, depending on usage and other factors.  Replacement cost is approximately $625 or $725, respectively, for a 36-volt or 48-volt system.

What’s the difference between a 48-volt car and a 36-volt car?
The 48-volt car has more low-end torque, longer drive time on a charge, and longer battery life.

How fast do golf cars go?
An older electric car with a standard motor will top out at 12-14 MPH.  An upgraded motor will increase it to 16-18 MPH.  The newer Club Cars (IQ model) will go up to 19 MPH.  Gas golf cars are governed to go 12-15 MPH.

What’s the difference between Club Car and EZ-GO or Yamaha?
Club Cars have an aluminum chassis.  This is a major factor regarding the car’s longevity and durability.  The aluminum construction (versus steel on the other brands) translates to a weight savings of 125 pounds.  The lighter weight contributes to longer life on batteries, tires, brakes, suspension, motor, and more.  Also due to the aluminum construction, the Club Car will never rust.  Club Car’s steering and braking systems are more advanced, making them easier and less tiring to use for the operator.

What’s the difference between a Used car and a Remanufactured car?
A Used car is thoroughly checked for mechanical defects and corrected if necessary.  Most or all of the components, such as tires, batteries, seats, etc. will have normal wear and tear.  A Remanufactured car is in a completely different category.  We recycle an aluminum frame from a 3-4 year old car, and essentially build a new car on it.  New components include body, batteries, cables, tires, wheels, brakes, and much more.  The warranty is much longer than a used car.

What’s the difference between a New car and a Remanufactured car?
The New car has a three-year warranty vs. one-year for the Remanufactured.  The New is all new, the Remanufactured is mostly new.  The New car has the latest Precedent body style.

How much do golf cars cost?
Generally, new cars cost $6,000-8,000; remanufactured cars cost $4,000-6,000; used cars $2,000-4,000.

Are golf cars street legal?
In a word, no.  To be street legal, among other requirements like seatbelts, lights, and turn signals, they must be capable of a minimum of 25 MPH to be used on a road with a posted 35 MPH limit.  If you check with law enforcement in your desired riding area, they may allow you to operate a golf car on the road under certain conditions.
